Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has praised the Financing and Promoting Technology Corporation (FPT) for its pioneering work in information-technology (IT) and telecommunications in Vietnam over the past 25 years.

Speaking at a September 7 meeting to celebrate the FPT’s 25th anniversary in Hanoi, Deputy PM Nhan particularly applauded the group’s contributions to the formation of IT and software industries in the country.

He commented on the group’s participation in building large-scale information networks nationwide, success in software export and efforts in educational renovation. He also acknowledged the corporation as one of the country’s first four internet service suppliers.

The Deputy PM urged the group to continue utilising its strength to aid the country’s socio-economic development, thus helping Vietnam evolve from middle-income status towards a knowledge-based economy and an intelligent, democratic and modern society.

FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh said during the 1988-2012 period, the group’s annual turnover increased by 53.23 percent on average while profits went up 52.57 percent annually.

The group has contributed over 23.5 trillion VND to the State budget, he said, adding that with a staff of 15,000, FPT services now cover 50 cities and provinces nationwide as well as many countries across the world, including Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, the UK, France, Germany, the US and Australia.

Binh said FPT is set to become a global group in Vietnam in smart services, striving to pocket 100 million USD in Singapore and hundreds of millions of USD from ASEAN.

To fulfill its targets, the group will focus on mobile technology, cloud computing and big data and software development tools while paying more attention to personnel training and partner seeking, he said.-VNA
