Offshore fishing boats in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh and other 27 coastal cities and provinces nationwide will be connected with the Movimar satellite system under a French-funded project worth 14.343 million EUR.

Of the total funding, the French side contributes 13.9 million EUR and the Vietnamese government, 10.2 billion VND (roughly 56,000 EUR).

The three-year project, starting from this year, will equip 20 offshore fishing boats in Tra Vinh province with satellite receivers, which enable them to define rich fishing grounds, update weather forecast and contact with other boats.

It is also expected to help the localities perfect their managerial system for fishing boats as part of efforts to realise modernisation and industrialisation of the fisheries sector.

Tra Vinh has 150 offshore fishing boats grouped into 18 teams./.
