Phnom Penh (VNA) – France will spend 154 million EUR in aid on Cambodia’s socio-economic development projects in 2016 and 2017.

According to a press release from the French Embassy in Cambodia on March 24, the grant will be channelled into a range of infrastructure projects in rural areas. They include renovating the grid, developing clean water systems, upgrading an irrigation system for 50,000 hectares of plantation and building 1,200km of road.

The fund is also earmarked for improving the quality of local human resources, particularly in the sectors of garment-textile and tourism.

Apart from the funding, France will continue assisting Cambodia in protecting its cultural heritage and training military personnel for UN peacekeeping missions.

France is among Cambodia’s biggest donors, offering the Southeast Asian country 80 million EUR worth of aid in 2015.-VNA
