French Institute brings fusion trio to play in HCM City

French jazz fusion trio The Drops will perform at the Saigon Ranger bar in Ho Chi Minh City on April 17 as part of a programme by the French Institute to present outstanding young talents coming out of Francophonie communities across the world to Vietnamese audiences.

It will be the trio's first appearance in Vietnam.

TheDrops was formed in 2008 in Paris by friends Panzani and Casagrande whowanted to channel their energies into a new and different musicalproject.

The two incorporated standard rock and pop influences,with flair, to their jazz language, leading to their acclaimed debutalbum Falling from the Sky released in 2010.

In November 2010they did a release tour of France and Italy, also recording their secondalbum, Spray, on the road and releasing it in 2013.

In 2011 thetwo were joined by prodigious French drummer Gautier Garrigue, and thetrio has since performed in Italy, France, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Macedonia,Belgium, Germany, Portugal, and China.

In January this year they released their first live album Live in Paris.-VNA

Vietnamese puppetry seeks renewal amid preservation challenges

People’s Artist Nguyen Hoang Tuan, Chairman of the Hanoi Theatre Association, noted that while northern Vietnam had 27 puppetry guilds in 1986, only 14 remain today. Many traditional plays and original scripts have been lost, hurting restoration and preservation efforts.

Project on digital transformation in cultural sector approved

By 2030, the project targets the establishment of shared digital platforms across 100% of cultural sectors. All digitised cultural heritage will be standardised under the national data framework and shared in accordance with regulations, while 80% of public digital heritage assets are expected to receive digital identifiers to clarify ownership and management, encouraging organisations and individuals to do the same and support market development.
