French pianist to perform in Vietnam

French pianist Michel Bourdoncle will appear with Vietnam ’s National Symphony Orchestra in Hanoi from Feb. 15-16.
French pianist Michel Bourdoncle will appear with Vietnam ’s National Symphony Orchestra in Hanoi from Feb. 15-16.

At the concert, the artist will perform several renowned works by Johannes Brahms, the great German composer.

Born in Marseille in 1960, Michel Bourdoncle studied at the ParisConservatoire, winning first prizes in chamber music and piano under thetuition of famous French pianists Geneviève Joy and Dominique Merlet.

In 1986 and 1987 he also studied at the Moscow Conservatory.

He has performed under the direction of many renowned conductors, andwith many symphony orchestras including the Orchestra of Madere, the ProArte Orchestra from Paris, the Montpellier Philharmonic Orchestra, andRotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.

Bourdoncle appeared at the Hanoi Opera House for France ’s National Day in 2008 and 2009 and also at L’Espace in 2010.

Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) was from the Romantic period, reveredalong with Bach and Beethoven as one of the “Three Bs”.

Brahms' adherence to the ideals of the Classical era is evident in allhis music, and because his Symphony No. 1 appeared to continue thisnoble tradition, it was nicknamed "Beethoven's Tenth."

Many violin, cello and piano concertos, four symphonies, and EinDeutsches Requiem are among his greatest achievements, though he is alsowell-loved for numerous songs, chamber works, piano pieces, and theubiquitous Wiegenlied, popularly known as "Brahms' Lullaby"./.
