French songwriter Francis Cabrel will perform romantic ballads tonight at a concert in Hanoi on Oct.6.

The concert will feature Francis Cabrel and nascent Vietnamese singer, Le Cat Trong Ly.

Dylan’s ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ inspired the young teenager from Agen , France , to pick up a guitar and start writing his own songs. The two singers are planning to perform duet of a Bob Dyland song.

Cabrel also learned English by translating the lyrics of his favourite musicians.

In 1974, he won a contest organised by Sud Radio that landed him a record deal with CBS.
While Cabrel is best known for his French songs, he has also recorded powerful original tracks along with moving Spanish translations of some of his French numbers.
This is the second trip to Vietnam for the singer, who first performed in the country in 2000 at the first Hue Festival. After his trip, he decided to adopt a Dao ethnic child from an orphanage in Bac Can Province , who is now five years old.

“My generation has always admired the Vietnamese people. I have loved this country and its people for a long time,” he said.

The songs that will be performed come from different periods of his 30-year career.

“I’m happy to return here, where there are wonderful people and beautiful landscapes,” said Cabrel. “As usual, I always ask the organisers to find a young singer in the city that I can perform with and introduce to the audience.”

Singer Ly was found playing in bars in HCM City by producer Philippe Bouler. Ly’s album was sent to Cabrel a few months, which was met with approval by the artist.
Ly is currently studying viola at the HCM City Conservatory. Proceeds from the two shows at the Hanoi Opera House will be donated to the Bac Can orphanage./.
