Attending a ceremony to commemorate the 45th anniversary of Vietnam’s United Nations membership in Hanoi on October 21, 2022, United Nations Secretary General António Guterres called on countries, especially developed nations, to act more to fight climate change and reach the target of net-zero emission by 2050

Expressing concern about climate change and sea level rise, Secretary General António Guterres said that without joint actions on global climate, in this decade alone, more than a million Vietnamese people could be pushed into extreme poverty
Then, the economic damage caused by climate change in Vietnam could increase 50 times by 2050.
In this context, the Secretary General of the United Nations welcomed Vietnam's strong implementation of kick-starting a revolution in renewable energy, aimed for net-zero emission by 2050
He said Vietnam needs support to accelerate the process of economic transformation and greening/.
