A leader from the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) has asked UN organisations in Vietnam to continue stepping up cooperation with the Vietnamese Government and the VFF in every field.
The President of the VFF’s Central Committee, Huynh Dam, stated this while receiving the UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam , Pratibha Mehta, in Hanoi on August 1.
At the reception, Dam thanked the UN organisations in Vietnam for their support during Vietnam ’s development in general and its poverty reduction efforts in particular.
Over the past few years, Vietnam and the UN have recorded many joint successes, including projects on health, poverty reduction and environmental protection, he said.
He stressed that the Vietnamese Party, State and Fatherland Front have made a lot of efforts to overcome many problems, speed up economic development, ensure social welfare and have tried to make sure that people have happy and prosperous lives, especially the poor and disadvantaged.
Over the past 10 years, the VFF has mobilised many organisations and individuals both inside and outside the country to join hands and build over 1.2 million houses for the poor while generating jobs, educational opportunities, health care and treatment for millions of others.
Mehta praised the role the VFF has played, as well as its effective and dynamic activities in uniting the people.
She said that she hoped in the future, UN organisations in Vietnam and the VFF will continue to step up their joint initiatives, especially in poverty reduction, economic development and improving health and education services.-VNA
