Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) and its subordinate companies have raised 328 billion VND (14.16 million USD) to support flood victims in the central region and poor people across the country.

Staff members of the group donated at least one-day salary while it sent delegations to some localities in the central region to hand over cash and necessities to affected residents.

The group’s subordinate companies also provide support for vehicles transporting aid to the central region, arrange shelters for more than 400 displaced people of Quang Ngai province, and help locals gradually resume production.

After half a month, 28 billion VND was distributed to affected people in the central localities.

PetroVietnam also pledged to offer additional 300 billion VND for the Fund for the Poor this year.

Radio The Voice of Vietnam (VOV) on October 30 organised an art programme and auctions which mobilised close to 13 billion VND in cash and kind for flood victims.

Some 6,650 CHF (7,240 USD) was raised by the Embassy of Vietnam in Switzerland while the Switzerland-Vietnam Friendship Association offered 6,000 CHF to help people overcome consequences of recent floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, more than 5.5 billion VND was presented to flood-hit people in Quang Ngai province on October 30. The donations were granted in response to the call of the provincial authorities.

Quang Ngai is among hardest-hit localities by storm Molave and subsequent floods as 13 people were wounded, 169 houses collapsed and hundreds of others remained inundated./.
