Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has ordered further investigation into a transnational drug trafficking ring recently uncovered by the central province of Ha Tinh’s border guards.

On December 13, the provincial border guards’ anti-drug crime force and police of the neighbouring Lao province of Bolikhamsai seized six people who were transporting 92 bricks of heroin weighing 33.12kg into Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the Ho Chi Minh City police also busted a ring transporting drug from the northern province of Quang Ninh to the southern hub.

The municipal Police Department’s Office for Drug-related Crime Investigation reported on December 16 that the police detained eight people involved in the ring and seized nearly 3kg of methamphetamine, 992g of psychoactive drug-like substances, and other items.

The ring was led by 36-year-old Tran Thi Xuan residing in the city’s District 8, 30-year-old Tran Khanh Bang in District 7, and 38-year-old Truong Hoan Vu in District 8, who were prosecuted for drug trafficking. The five others were handed over to local police.-VNA
