Two guest artists from Germany will perform classical works with the Vietnam National Academy of Music's Youth Orchestra on July 1.

The concert will feature overture Coriolan and concerto for piano and orchestra No 5 by Beethoven and Belgian-French Cesar Franck's Symphony in D minor with pianist Hinrich Alpers and conductor Christina Schumann.

The Youth Orchestra, which consists of 70 young lecturers and exceptional students from the Academy, participated in the international Beethovenfest in Bonn and Berlin last year.

In recent years, the Youth Orchestra has worked under the direction of such internationally renowned conductors as Claire Levacher ( France ), Peter Gulke and Christian Schumann ( Germany ) and Nguyen Thieu Hoa.

At 27 years of age, Schumann is considered one of Germany 's most talented musical virtuosos. Debuting in March this year with the Bavarian State Opera, he has already led the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra London.

In Vietnam , he will appear for the second time as a guest conductor with the Youth Orchestra.

Alpers won the first prize at the famous International Telekom Beethoven Competition last year.

He will play works by Schumann, Chopin and Beethoven as part of a solo performance on Friday.
