The Northern Power Corporation, an arm of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN NPC), launched a project on July 5 to improve the efficiency of the national power grid in rural areas using loans from the German Reconstruction Bank (KFW).

The project is part of larger-scale programme run by EVN to upgrade and expand the national grid to 26 cities and provinces across the country. The KFW has pledged a loan of 120 million EUR, roughly 148.68 million USD, to help EVN carry out the huge undertaking.

The project will cost a total of 1.94 trillion VND, with 1.47 trillion VND coming from the German bank, said Nguyen Phuc Vinh, EVN NPC General Director.

It will provide adequate and reliable supplies of electricity to the northern provinces of Bac Giang, Vinh Phuc and Phu Tho and the central province of Nghe An.

At the launching ceremony, the heads of the targeted provinces agreed to work with local electric providers and EVN NPC, the project’s investor, to ensure the project runs according to schedule.-VNA
