German will be taught as the first or second foreign language in Vietnamese schools under an agreement reached in Hanoi on July 17.
The agreement is part of the initiative “Schools: Partners for the Future”. It was inked in Hanoi by Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan and German Ambassador to Vietnam Jutta Frasch.
Accordingly, Vietnamese pupils will be provided with knowledge about the language as well as the German culture during their school time. This will help them be able to study at a university in Germany in the future.
Earlier in May 2007, a pilot project to teach German in schools began in Vietnam . So far, more than 1,400 pupils at 14 schools in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong are learning the language.-VNA
