The German Organisation for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) will help the central city of Da Nang to become the region’s most environmentally-friendly city in the future through a project entitled “Developing Da Nang – Environmental City”.

An agreement to this effect was signed by Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Van Huu Chien and Dr. Guenter Riethmacher, a representative from GTZ, in the city on June 29.

The 1.5 million EUR project, funded by the German government, will be implemented from mid-2010 to the end of 2012 with the aim of improving Da Nang city’s capacity in urban environmental planning and developing its public transport system.

In the first component of the project, GTZ will assist Da Nang city in building and launching policies, standards and regulations on environmentally-friendly public transport management, forming the specific structure, functions and tasks of a public transport management agency, and organising training courses for local personnel.

In the second component, the German organisation will help the city build an overall strategy on urban environmental development as well as disseminate models of urban environment management and ways to access urban networks and international experiences.

Initiated by the Da Nang city People’s Committee, the project is expected to renew the image of Da Nang as an environmentally-friendly city, thus facilitating its investment attraction and economic development./.
