The National Fund for Vietnamese Children (NFVC) on September 18 teamed up with the AIA Vietnam Life Insurance Co. Ltd to present 30 bicycles and 30 gift packages, worth 55 million VND (2,447 USD) in total, to poor students in the southern province of Tra Vinh.

The event was part of the “Real Life Journey” programme, launched in 2014 to encourage disadvantaged children from far-flung areas to go to school and record high academic performance.

The programme has so far granted bikes to 1470 underprivileged students in 37 cities and provinces nationwide. In 2015, about 1,000 bicycles will be donated to those in need in 25 localities, including An Giang, Can Tho and Kien Giang.

Over the past four years, AIA Vietnam supported over 10 billion VND (445,000 USD) for poor kids across Vietnam.

The same day, nearly 160 scholarships, worth 7 million VND (311 USD) each, were presented to university freshmen from poor families in the central province of Quang Tri with the hope of helping them overcome difficulties to pursue their study.-VNA
