Hanoi (VNA) – At least 2,765 communes (equivalent to 31 percent) and 38 districts nationwide will be recognised as new-style rural areas by the end of 2017.

It was set in the 2017 working agenda of the Central Steering Committee for National Target Programmes issued by the Prime Minister.

The main task of the committee is to review and report to the Prime Minister the completion of documents related to the creation of legal grounds for the implementation of national target programmes.

The committee is also asked to increase the monitoring implementation of each national target programme, ensuring efficiency and fulfilling socio-economic development goals in 2017.

The national programme on building new-style rural areas, initiated by the Government in 2010, includes 19 criteria on socio-economic development, politics and defence, aiming to boost rural areas of Vietnam.

The criteria cover infrastructure development, production capacity improvement, environmental protection and cultural value promotion.-VNA
