Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai requested that central provinces recently battered by typhoon Mirinae, Phu Yen and Binh Dinh, quickly deploy all available forces to search for those still missing and promptly deliver relief aid to those who are still stranded by the flooding.

He was inspecting the two provinces’ implementation of post-storm services on November 4.

The Government leader asked provincial health departments to quickly launch clean-up activities and measures to prevent possible outbreaks of disease which may follow in the aftermath of the flooding.

Mirinae, the 11th such storm to hit Vietnam so far this year, claimed 69 lives in Phu Yen province. It also left 14 others missing, pulled down 413 houses and left many places in the locality cut off.

Phu Yen has asked the Government to provide it with 120,000 boxes of instant noodles and 4,000 tonnes of rice to feed the local people and 550 billion VND to assist the families of storm victims and those seriously affected as well as fix roads, irrigation works and aquaculture farms.

At its request, on the day, military helicopters launched relief aid services over areas that remain isolated by flooding.

Binh Dinh reported that the typhoon killed 13, injured 15 others and left three people missing. The disaster also inundated 42,000 houses, destroyed 311 others and damaged more than 3,500 houses. The total economic damage is estimated at 887 billion VND.

The affected province has also asked for the provision of rice, noodles, blankets, water filters, rice seedlings and funds for the reconstruction of houses, as well as the restoration of damaged transport facilities and irrigation networks./.
