Gov’t troops, rebels clash in southern Philippines, killing nine
Philippine army troops clashed with around 40 rebels from the New People's Army (NPA) in the southern Philippine province of Compostela Valley on July 12, killing eight rebels and a soldier.

Talks to end the decades-long insurgency between the Philippine government and NDFP have been temporary suspended.
Negotiators from both sides are now conducting back channel talks to resume the stalled talks. They are hoping to return to the negotiating table next month.-VNA
