Hanoi (VNA) – Philippine army troops clashed with
around 40 rebels from the New People's Army (NPA) in the southern Philippine
province of Compostela Valley on July 12, killing eight rebels and a soldier,
according to the Philippine authorities. NPA is an armed branch of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP).
Talks to end the decades-long insurgency between the Philippine government and NDFP have been temporary suspended.
Negotiators from both sides are now conducting back channel talks to resume the stalled talks. They are hoping to return to the negotiating table next month.-VNA
