The first container ship of the Grand Alliance berthed at Tan Cang Cai Mep deep-water seaport in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on January 9.
M.V OOCL America, owned by Hong Kong’s carrier OOCL which is member of the Grand Alliance, has a tonnage of more than 5.000 TEU. The container ship will be fed at the port before sailing through the Suez Canal to dock at the US’s ports.
After M.V OOCL America, the Grand Alliance, which also includes carriers Hapag-Lloyd and NYK Line, will send 10 other container ships with a tonnage of 5.500 TEU or higher to the port for loading.
Tran Khanh Sinh, director of the port, said that many carriers had chosen the port as destination given its large capacity and the quality of its service. After seven months of operation, the port has hosted 58 ship arrivals with a total cargo of nearly 111,000 TEU./.
