Ho Chi Minh City on April 29 held a grand meeting to celebrate the 37th anniversary of the liberation of the south and national reunification (April 30).

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung attended the meeting.

Addressing the ceremony, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan affirmed the immortal value of the resistance war for national independence with the Great Spring Victory in 1975. They were victories of trust and justice, the results of the long and hard struggle with great sacrifice of people all over the country under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Building on the victory, Ho Chi Minh City overcame many difficulties to implement the renewal cause, gaining great socio-economic achievements. The city has grown into a large economic, cultural, technological and scientific centre of the country. It also became a bridge for international exchange for the country and the region as well.

On behalf of the Party and State, Prime Minister Dung presented the title “Hero of the Armed Force” to three units and six individuals of the city.

The same day, a delegation of the central government and HCM City pay tributes to war martyrs at the city’s cemeteries.-VNA
