Great efforts to deal with UXOs pay off
Quang Nam is among provinces with the largest number of explosive remnants of war. Local authorities have worked with international organisations to search for and dispose of unexploded ordnances.
Quang Nam residents have long lived under the threat of post-war bombs and landmines, with UXOs claiming many lives and injuring local residents.
Denmark’s non-governmental organisation Danish Deming Group has provided non-refundable aid for a project to deal with UXOs in Quang Nam province since 2014. The project has helped decontaminate a vast area in the locality.
Local people in decontaminated areas are no longer threatened by UXOs. Now they can keep focus on cultivation instead.
Thanks to efforts from the locality and international organisations, a large UXO-polluted area has been decontaminated. Still, there remain UXOs to be found.
Raising people’s awareness on preventing accidents caused by UXOs is also of importance.-VNA
