Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has approved the designing of a master plan for energy development from 2016-2025.

He asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to select capable bodies to provide consultation services, appraise the proposal and submit it to the Prime Minister for approval within the first quarter of 2016.

The Ministry will also be in charge of approving the draft and cost projections for the plan and its implementation.

Previously, the Prime Minister approved the National Strategy on Energy Development through 2020 with a vision towards 2050.

Its general objectives include ensuring national energy security, providing adequate and high-quality energy for socio-economic development and effectively exploring and utilising the national energy resources.

It also aims to establish a healthy competitive energy market, diversify energy investment and trading, develop renewable and alternative energy sources, and boost the sector in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly manner.

Planning the national energy system lays a crucial foundation for designing relevant policies and programmes on sustainable development, especially in integration and market-oriented electricity development.-VNA
