Bangkok (VNA) - A military ground combat exercise was conducted in the northern part of Thailand on March 25.

The Third Army Region organised the event in open space and hillside terrains in Sukhothai province, about 440 kilometers to the north of the capital city of Bangkok.

The one-day exercise aimed to demonstrate combat readiness, effective weapon use and rapid personnel deployment.

Approximately 3,800 army troops, including the units of infantry, artillery and anti-aircraft artillery, took part in the exercise with live ammunition.

The event also saw the participation of main battle tanks as well as attack and utility helicopters. Meanwhile, a squadron of the air force's F-16 jet fighters participated in a mock bombing mission.

Observing the exercise, Defense Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan said it proves Thai army’s capacity of maintaining its combat readiness in peace time.-VNA
