Dr. Guenter Riethmacher, Country Director of the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) office in Vietnam, was awarded the insignia “For the Cause of Agriculture and Rural Development” in Hanoi on Dec. 14.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) Hoang Van Thang lauded Riethmacher for his role in coordinating and implementing a number of key projects in sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation and coastal natural resource protection since 2005.
Thang said these projects have helped improve rural living conditions and are an effective respond to climate change, which is getting worse in Vietnam.
The GTZ country director has also worked hard in planning and developing international cooperation programmes, and sought international donors to fund new development projects in Vietnam, in areas such as vocational training, healthcare, natural resource management and poverty alleviation./.
