Gymnastics has been chopped from the 2013 Southeast Asian Games following a meeting of officials from the 11 countries in the region.

Host Myanmar asked to drop the sport because it does not have the apparatus required for it.

The exclusion of gymnastics could hit Vietnam's medal tally since the country dominates the sport in the region.

At the 2011 Sea Games in Indonesia, gymnastics contributed 12 gold medals, five silvers, and four bronzes to Vietnam's tally.

Vietnam racked up 96 gold medals, 92 silvers and 100 bronzes to finish third.

The 27th SEA Games will be held in December in Naypyidaw, the new Myanmar capital.-VNA
