The project,launched in Ha Nam on April 18, is designed to improve safety forchildren travelling to and from school, but generally also providesbenefits for a range of vulnerable road users.
Itcovers the installation of appropriate and low-cost local trafficengineering improvements, road safety education for children, parentsand the local community and the enforcement of helmet wearing, parkingrestrictions around the school and targeting speeding drivers.
Three schools in Ha Nam will pilot the project, including Dong Vanelementary school in Dong Van town, Duy Tien district, Thanh Huongelementary school and Thanh Huong junior high school in Thanh Liemdistrict.
The project, to go on until July 2014, will then be replicated across the country.
Earlier, similar projects have been successfully deployed in other Southeast Asian countries and Africa.-VNA
