The 3G network, which is used commonly for wireless phones in Vietnam , will become the next target for hi-tech criminals, police engaged in combating cyber-crime have warned.

At a seminar discussing ways to combat hi-tech crimes in Ho Chi Minh City on April 21, the cyber police pointed out that the Apple Iphone, which is increasingly used in Vietnam , is at high risk of attacks by hackers.

They also referred to the boom in social networks as giving hackers a good reason to try new tricks to threaten web security.

In the first three months of this year, more than 300 websites with the domain name “.vn” in Vietnam were attacked by foreign hackers and 150,000 PCs were infected with viruses and Trojans--a spyware used to steal private information from individuals.

Vietnam is still among the top ten nations in the world with the highest rate of spam spread through emails.

In recent years, hackers have focused on attacking the IT networks of the financial and banking sectors and online payment systems.

In 2009, they hacked more than 1,000 websites in Vietnam./.
