Vietnam’s Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) Group has funded 4 million USD for the construction of the National Football Centre and National Football Academy in Cambodia, Chairman of the Association of Vietnamese Investors in Cambodia Tran Bac Ha has revealed.

Ha, who is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV), made the announcement at the inauguration ceremony for the 15 hectare facility in Baty district of Kandal province on June 18.

The event saw the participation of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Asian Football Confederation President Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, among others.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Hun Sen awarded the first class Royal Order of Merit to HAGL Chairman Doan Nguyen Duc for his contributions to the development of football in Cambodia.

HAGL has so far poured over 230 million USD into planting agricultural and industrial trees in Cambodia . It has provided 30 million USD for the country’s infrastructure and vocational training.

The group also pledged to give 10 million USD to Cambodia’s community development investment programme from now till 2016.

Previously, on June 17, BIDV signed an agreement with the Bank for Investment and Development of Cambodia (BIDC) to provide 220,000 USD for the Football Federation of Cambodia to organise an international football tournament, the BIDC CUP 2013, and 100,000 USD for the National Football Centre.-VNA
