Hai Duong (VNA) -
The northern province of Hai Duong plans to focus investment on provincial roads and those linking it with other localities from now to 2030 to meet people’s travel demand and goods transport while helping boost socioeconomic development and ensure traffic safety.

Vu Van Tung, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Transport, said most roads in Hai Duong are quite narrow at some 5.5-6 metres wide.

Investment in upgrading roads remains limited, with only 3.5 percent of the total length of provincial roads repaired each year.

The number of vehicles travelling along these roads, meanwhile, increased 8-10 percent per year during the 2014-2019 period.

The province is therefore striving to mobilise 4.1 trillion VND (174.4 million USD) in 2021-2025 and 6.6 trillion VND (280.8 million USD) in 2026-2030 to build or upgrade local roads.

Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Duong Thai said the province will give priority to urgent and key projects to create breakthroughs in infrastructure.

Regarding inter-provincial roads, it will consider investment in the public-private partnership (PPP) form to reduce the amount of capital sourced from the local budget.

In the short term, it will invest in the Dinh and Quang Thanh Bridges connecting the province with Hai Phong city and the Trieu Bridge linking it with Quang Ninh province./.
