Hai Phong (VNA) - The northern port city of Hai Phong plans to implement four main transport projects in the period 2016-20, with foreign direct investment (FDI) totalling nearly 500 million USD.

The information was announced by the Hai Phong Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Centre on January 8.

The four projects include construction work on the subway from Nguyen Binh Khiem Road to Vu Yen Island, the Ho Sen Cau Rao 2 – Nguyen Van Linh intersection, the Hai Thanh Bridge and the Ben Lam Bridge.

The biggest project is the Ben Lam Bridge, connecting two districts of Hong Bang and Thuy Nguyen. The bridge will be 1,300m in length and have 10 lanes. The cost of the project is estimated at 160 million USD.

The project starting first, scheduled for this year, is the Ho Sen Cau Rao 2 – Nguyen Van Linh intersection in Le Chan district. The project will cover 6ha of land with total investment of 17 million USD.

Last year, Ho Sen Cau Rao 2 Road connecting the city centre with Le Chan district and Duong Kinh district was completed. Thus, the Ho Sen Cau Rao 2 - Nguyen Van Linh intersection project is important as it will complete the city’s traffic system, creating a main road connecting the city centre with Highway No 5 and the Do Son Tourism Site, according to the Hai Phong Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Centre. It will also help reduce heavy traffic on the Cau Dat – Lach Tray – Cau Rao route.

The Ho Sen Cau Rao 2 – Nguyen Van Linh intersection project is part of the city’s scheme for 2025 with a vision for 2050, to attract more investment and promote socio-economic development in Le Chau district and the city, according to experts from the centre.

The project of building the subway from Nguyen Binh Khiem Road to Vu Yen Island is in Hai An and Thuy Nguyen districts. The subway will be 350metres in length and have four lanes. It will cover an area of 8.1ha with total investment of 180 million USD.

Once it is completed, the subway is expected to shorten travel time from the city centre to Vu Yen Island, contributing to the city’s strategy of socio-economic development.

The last project is the Hai Thanh Bridge in Duong Kinh and Hai An districts. The bridge will be 5km in length and have 12 lanes. It will cover an area of 40ha with funds of 35 million USD. - VNA
