A pilot residential management project was unveiled in the northern city of Hai Phong on December 30, which aims to set up a database on about 1.8 million citizens in the city to serve State management and socio-economic planning.
Maj. Gen. Tran Van Ve, deputy head of the Police General Department for Administrative Management of Social Order and Safety, said the project is in progress in Da Phuc ward (Duong Kinh district) and Tan Tien commune (An Duong district) between December 2013 and June 2014.
Funded by Hungary’s official development assistance, the 10 million EUR (13.8 million USD) project will also assist in the issuance of personal identification numbers, making it easier for administrative procedures.
If successful, the project will serve as a premise to launch a national population database in the future.-VNA
