Ha Giang (VNA) – Hailstorms accompanied by whirlwinds and heavy rains wreaked havoc on some localities of the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang on April 22.

The phenomena, caused by the combination of a cold spell and seasonal transition, triggered serious damage to local houses, crops and public infrastructure facilities in the districts of Hoang Su Phi, Xin Man, Yen Minh, Dong Van and Meo Vac.

In particular, whirlwinds affected 810 houses, with Xin Man district suffering the heaviest damage as 229 houses were completely unroofed. 

Total damage across the province is estimated at 2.2 billion VND (93,200 USD).

Then Van Tien, Secretary of the Party Committee of Xin Man commune in Xin Man district, said the hailstorms and whirlwinds also devastated a large area of maize, rice and fruit crops.

Local authorities said facing the adverse weather conditions’ consequences, the People’s Committees of the impacted districts have taken prompt actions to address the aftermath and stabilise people’s lives./.
