During the first half of this year, the Hanoi People’s Committee approved 64 million USD worth of investment in 85 foreign-invested projects in information technology (IT), a year on year leap of 93 percent.

Of the 85, 23 were newly approved. Japan holds 9 projects, accounting for the largest proportion (39 percent), followed by the Republic of Korea’s 3 projects (13 percent), according to the Hanoi Department of Information and Telecommunications.

Hanoi is home to over 11.2 million mobile phone subscribers, down 2.47 percent from last year, together with 3.5 million Internet subscribers and 770,000 cable TV subscribers, up 6.77 percent and 2.66 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, the number of landline phone subscribers has seen a significant 34 percent drop from the same period last year.

The city has 77 postal service providers and nearly 1,120 post offices. By June, turnover from telecommunications was estimated to be 10 trillion VND (458.4 million USD) and postal services was 770 billion VND (35.3 million USD), up 11 percent and 54 percent, respectively.-VNA
