More solutions to free the city’s public places from illegally fly-posted advertising have been drawn up by the municipal People’s Committee.

Chairman Nguyen The Thao said that citizens, organisations and agencies should actively remove advertising from their buildings and prevent the violations.

He added the local People’s Committees have the right to mobilise people from the agencies or organisations to take part in these activities.

Thao said that to completely stop these violations, the city would form a public interest company which will give free information about services to people. Illegal fly-posting, spray-painted service announcements and leaflet deliveries to houses would not continue once the new company is operational.

The city will allocate more funds for localities to buy materials to eradicate graffiti-spoilt walls and defaced public places. In addition, free advertising boards will be set up in residential wards.

The solutions have been publicised following concerns from leaders of district People’s Committees and relevant departments about the lack of impact the campaign against illegal advertising is having. They believe that the lack of both dedicated forces and space available for free advertising boards has contributed to the problem.

Hoang Cong Khoi, chairman of Hoan Kiem district People’s Committee, said that the capital needs to maintain inspectors to stop the rash of fly-postering./.
