High-level delegations of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City attended a grand meeting and parade in Vientiane, Laos, on Nov. 19 night to celebrate the 450 th birthday of Vientiane and the 35 th National Day of Laos.
The Hanoi delegation was headed by Pham Quang Nghi, politburo member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the municipal Party Committee, while the Ho Chi Minh City delegation was led by Le Thanh Hai, politburo member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the municipal Party Committee.
Choummaly Sayasone, Party General Secretary and State President, other Lao officials, foreign guests and nearly 20,000 local people joined the cerebration.
Choummaly Sayasone delivered a keynote speech at the meeting, reviewing the history of Laos ’ development, highlighting the Lao people’s patriotism, love of peace, independence and friendship with all nations.
He also recalled the relocation of Laos ’ capital city from Xiengthong (now Luang Prabang) to Vientiane in 1560.
Choummaly Sayasone stressed the historical significance of the founding of the Lao People Revolutionary Party (LPRP) in 1955. Under the leadership of the LPRP, the Lao Democratic People’s Republic was founded on Dec. 2, 1975 and the people gained many achievements in national construction and development, especially over 25 years of national renewal.
Choummaly Sayasone called on all Lao people to try their best to build their nation into an industrialised and modernised country following the socialist orientation.
After the meeting, a parade took place with the participation of organisations from provinces and cities across the country.
An art performance of almost 1,000 artists and fireworks closed the festive night./.
