Hanoi (VNA) – An annual conference was held in Hanoi on October 5 to honour its 10 outstanding citizens for 2019 on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the liberation of capital city.
It is the tenth year that the city has honoured outstanding citizens.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee and the Council for Emulation and Commendation Nguyen Duc Chung said Hanoi was the first locality nationwide to launch emulation campaign “Good people, good deeds” in 1992, which has made important contributions to the capital’s development in the new period.
He emphasized that besides those who are honoured at the conference, many other people are silently working hard to contribute to society and the construction of the capital city.
The 10 outstanding citizens of Hanoi this year include Associate Professor Nguyen Thua Hy from the History Faculty of the Vietnam National University – Hanoi’s University of Social Sciences and Humanities, who has spent his entire life to conduct research on Thang Long – Hanoi.
Another one is teacher Le Thi Hoa from Dong Son elementary school in outlying Chuong My district, who has spent 26 years teaching children with metal disorders.
The others are former Director of the National Hospital of Pediatrics Prof. Nguyen Thanh Liem, former Chairman of the Vietnam Neurological Association Prof. Le Duc Hinh; former chief of Yen Son village in Ba Vi district Ly Van Phu; Chairman of the Board of Directors of Doji Gold & Gems Group Do Minh Phu; Hero of the People’s Armed Forces La Van Cau; head of the Thang Long Red Cross Society Le Thu (real name Dao Thi Doan); urban environment worker Nguyen Thi Thanh Hieu; and composer Le May./.
