Hanoi (VNA) - The Election Committee of Hanoi has worked with districts and towns to review all preparations for the election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People Councils at all levels in the 2021-2026 term.
According to Vu Thu Ha, Director of the Department of Home Affairs, all steps and processes for the election in the city have been implemented on schedule and in accordance with regulations.
The municipal Election Committee has distributed all kinds of election materials to districts, communes, wards, and townships, and these materials have been used in accordance with regulations.
In addition, the Standing Committees of the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels have coordinated to organise conferences for candidates for the National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels to meet voters, campaign for elections, and promote their role as reputable people in the community.
As of May 14, all 49 candidates for the 15th National Assembly had completed their voter contact plans and reports on action plans and election campaigning.
By May 17, all 160 candidates for the City People’s Council and 1,054 candidates for the district-level People’s Councils will complete their voter contact.
By May 21, all 10,807 candidates for the People’s Council of communes and townships will complete their voter contact.
The Election Commission of the city also requested the review of the number of voters who are university and college students in the area.
It also asked districts and towns to update the list of voters at polling stations in their localities.
As a result, the city as a whole saw a decline of 17,563 voters, from 5,408,560 to 5,390,997, as many student voters are still in their homeland and will not return to school because they can study online.
The City’s Election Commission has also issued directives and specific instructions on the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic at polling stations, especially in residential areas under lockdown or medical quarantine.
“All localities have a plan to make residential areas under lockdown and medical quarantine suitable polling stations, ensuring that they have less than 4,000 voters and do not have to set up additional stations,” a representative from the Election Committee said.
In particular, the municipal Election Committee identified 13 key tasks to focus on from now until the election, including mapping out plans and scenarios at all polling stations, and plans and scenarios on organising elections for people who are quarantined at home or in concentrated quarantine facilities and for people in the areas under lockdown.
They also include plans and scenarios for holding elections at hospitals and medical facilities providing treatment for COVID-19 patients.
Praising the efforts by relevant organisations, Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Council, said that although preparations for the election of deputies to the National Assembly and the People’s Councils at all levels are being implemented on schedule and according to regulations, it is still necessary to be vigilant.
Leaders of the municipal People’s Council suggested that districts and towns stick to their set roadmaps, focus on resolving problems as they arise, especially complaints and denunciations, and at the same time carefully review the list of voters, continuing to organise appropriate discussions to select worthy candidates for the National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, said that between now and election day on May 23, the most important task is to promote communications on the election, on voters’ sacred rights, responsibilities and obligations in regard to the election, and on the biographies of candidates.
On May 23, over 69 million voters nationwide will go to the polls to elect members of the 15th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term./.
