Hanoi strives to cut fires by 5-10 percent in 2014

In 2014, Hanoi will focus on taking various measures to raise the efficiency of fire prevention and fighting and rescue work in a bid to reduce the total number of fires by 5 – 10 percent against last year’s figure.

Emphasis will be placed on boosting the effectivenessof popularisation work and mobilising people’s involvement in fireprevention and fighting, in addition to stepping up collaborationbetween relevant units to get fires under control in the fastestpossible way.

To limit fires and serious human and propertylosses, the municipal Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Departmentwill continue to enhance the effectiveness and professionalism of thework, said Vice Director of the department Hoang Quoc Dinh.

In2013, a combined number of 161 fires and explosions occurred in thecity, claiming 12 lives, injuring 21 people, and causing 45 billion VND(2.1 million USD) in damage, which was mainly attributed to electricalshort circuits.-VNA

Sea turtle nests on Lam Dong's Hon Cau island for sixth time this year

Since the beginning of 2026, sea turtles have nested six times at three beaches on Hon Cau island, namely Nhat, Mui Tau and Ba Hon. Three nests were left undisturbed at safe locations, while another three were relocated to the incubation area for protection, involving a total of 246 eggs.
