In recent days, farmers in suburban districts of Hanoi often burn a lot of straws after harvesting spring rice.

This is a habit formed a long time ago, in order to quickly prepare the land for the new crop. However, this action causes heavy pollution within the city.

Going out of the inner areas of the city, people can easily see the image of straw burning in many fields. Farmers burned piles of straws, creating thick columns of smoke.

The smog appears gradually from about 21-22 pm. Thick smoke usually reaches its peak density at night and then decreases the intensity.

According to environmental experts, burning straw action will create a large amount of CO2, CO, SO2 along with hundreds of other compounds that are not good for human health. This habit also will increase emissions to the atmosphere.

In recent days, air pollution in Hanoi has reached the worst level in the world.

Although Hanoi has issued Directive 15 and other measures to ban the burning straw practice, it can be affirmed that these measures have not been effective so far./.
