More than 300 delegates from 32 countries will attend the second international conference to promote Vietnamese literature that is slated for Jan. 5-10, 2010 in Hanoi.

Speaking to the press in Hanoi on Dec. 15, President of the Vietnam Writers Association (VWA) Huu Thinh said that participants to the conference include Vietnamese writers, students and foreign translators. They will discuss four main topics including Vietnam’s classical literature, modern Vietnam’s prose and poem and young Vietnamese writers, said Thinh.

The six-day conference is expected to help foreign translators, researchers and publishing houses better understand the history of Vietnam’s literature and promote cultural exchange, he added.

During the conference, the VWA will organise an exhibition on the international literature exchange and the memorandum signing on translated comprehension of Vietnam ’s literature.

On this occasion, friendship medals will be presented to writers, translators and publishing houses in recognition of their contributions to promoting Vietnam’s literature to the world.

The first conference, which was held in 2002, drew the participation of delegates from nearly 20 countries. Following the conference, around 30 Vietnamese works were translated./.
