Almost 500 delegates will be attending the sixth ASEAN People’s Forum (APF), scheduled to be held in Hanoi this September.
With the theme “Solidarity and action for ASEAN”, the forum will enable delegates from social movements and civil organisations in ASEAN to come together and promote mutual understanding as well as solidarity.
The forum will discuss measures to coordinate the actions of civil organisations in ASEAN in the near future and come up with recommendations for ASEAN’s leaders to create a people oriented ASEAN Community.
At the end of May, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations and other social organisations in Vietnam and other ASEAN member countries jointly held the first preparatory meeting on the sixth APF.
The participants agreed that the APF is a strategically important event, which will help to raise the public’s awareness and perception of the group.
However, they suggested the organisers renew the organization of the forum and promote the role of people’s organisations in ASEAN during the preparations for the event. This will improve the forum’s effectiveness and boost cooperation within ASEAN’s official channels./.
