All the red maple trees on the Nguyen Chi Thanh-Tran Duy Hung route will be replaced by small leaf terminalia catappa trees. The plan was approved by the City of Hanoi.
All 262 maple trees, donated by a business to the city, have been plant on the two streets since 2018 in a experimental project.
In which, 119 trees was planted on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street and 143 trees on Tran Duy Hung Street.
After more than 2 years from the start of planting, those trees have not yet adapted to the climate of Hanoi.
They are weak and grow very slow. Some trees seem to be dead and their did affect to the urban beauty.
Based on the current situation, Hanoi Department of Construction proposes 2 options.
Option 1 is to replace all the red mapple trees with small leaf small leaf terminalia catappa trees. This type of tree has a trunk diameter of 10-15cm and a height from 6-8m
Option 2 is to plant small leaf terminalia catappa trees with palm trees, by a intercropping patten.
It is expected that tree replacement task will be carried out in April 2021 and will be completed before April 30 and May 1, 2021, the two important holidays in Vietnam.
