The capital city of Hanoi is working to ensure 78 percent of its population join health insurance in 2016.

It also aims to raise the figure to 80.5 percent in 2017 and 85 percent in 2020, heard a working session between Hanoi authorities and the Ministry of Health on March 10.

It was reported that by the end of 2014, 5.08 million city dwellers have been covered by health insurance, equal to 71.6 percent of the capital’s population.

Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Vice Chairwoman of Hanoi’s People’s Committee, vowed the administration will do more to provide high-quality treatment for all of its citizens.

In a recent meeting, the Vietnamese Government has set to achieve 75 percent health insurance coverage in 2015 and 80 percent by 2020.

The Ministry of Health reported that in 2014, health insurance covered 71.6 percent of the population, realising the target of over 70 percent by 2015 set in the blueprint for universal health insurance, but falling short of the 75 percent mandated by the National Assembly.-VNA
