Hanoi ’s consumer price index (CPI) in August increased by 1.06 percent over last month and 22.66 percent compared to the same period last year, the Hanoi Statistics Office announced.

Of the 11 consumption categories, only post and telecom services remained unchanged in comparison with last month.

The biggest price hike was seen in the group of foodstuff and restaurant services with 2.51 percent and 1.89 percent, following by housing, electricity, water, fuel and building materials with 1.06 percent.

Meanwhile, the price of food decreased 0.69 percent.

According to economic experts, this month’s CPI posted a high rise in comparison with the same period of previous years.

However, they said, this is the fourth consecutive month the capital city has seen CPI expansion to be slowly narrowed, attributing to the price stabilisation programme launched by the municipal People’s Committee.

During this month, gold price soared 8.75 percent against last month while the price of US dollar was up only 0.09 percent./.
