Hanoi ’s consumer price index (CPI) in August rose slightly, by only 0.15 percent over the previous month, the smallest increase in the last four months, the city’s Statistics Office has reported.

On aggregate, the index was up 8.09 percent over the same period last year.

During the month, most groups of commodities saw a small increase in price, ranging from 0.06-0.79 percent, led by food and restaurant services, followed by transport and garments and footwear.

In particular, housing, electricity, water and fuel enjoyed a small drop in price over the previous month while post and telecoms services saw a sharper fall of 4.71 percent.

This month, the price of gold also dropped by 1.34 percent. However, the US dollar was up 0.73 percent over July./.
