Hanoi will repair and upgrade all of its reservoirs before May 31 in an effort to prevent flooding during the upcoming flood season, says deputy director of the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Ha Duc Trung.

The department will join hands with district People's Committees and water resources enterprises to evaluate operational processes at all city's reservoirs and develop plans to prevent flooding.

"Sluice gates will be checked and repaired to prevent flooding, and new concrete laid over reservoir roofs," he said.

The reservoirs will also receive repairs to prevent leaks.

Repair work on the reservoirs is expected to cost 847.5 billion VND (42.3 million USD) which will come from the city budget, according to Trung.

Department statistics show that the city has 96 reservoirs which regulate water for agricultural manufacturing. Eleven of the largest reservoirs range in capacity from 2-62 million cubic metres, including the Suoi Hai in Ba Vi district, Quan Son in My Duc district and Dong Suong in Chuong My district./.
