Hanoi (VNA) – Contributions of the Hoang Dieu Citadel National Salvation Youth Union to the 1945 August Revolution have been remembered as present youngsters are following their example in national construction and defence with specific actions.
Upholding traditions
Nguyen Ngoc Viet, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCM CYU)’s Committee of Hanoi, said the August Revolution has passed down great lessons on how to optimise opportunities. The sound Party leadership helped to bring into play the great national unity bloc and national strength in the general uprising.
Generations of Hanoi youths, with the Hoang Dieu Citadel National Salvation Youth Union as a typical example, faithfully and undauntedly pursued the revolutionary path defined by the Party and President Ho Chi Minh. They, together with Hanoians, completed legendary accomplishments in the past struggle for independence, as well as the present cause of construction, development and defence of the capital city and the country.
“Upholding the traditions passed down by youth generations who sacrificed their lives for national construction and defence is the responsibility of the capital city’s young people,” Viet said. “Through different periods of time, such traditions have been preserved and carried forwards with multiple movements.”
The HCM CYU organization of Hanoi has launched an array of drives in socio-economic development, startup, new-style rural area building, national defence and security, and social welfare.
Tens of thousands of youth groups have joined these movements, helping to build hundreds of thousands of facilities and generate hundreds of billions of Vietnam dong, Viet said, stressing that the results have vividly demonstrated the strength of Hanoi youths in the new period, as well as their high sense of responsibility towards the city and the nation.
The youth union has also promptly instructed its chapters to join the entire political system in the combat against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hundreds of youth volunteer groups have stood ready to assist localities and units in COVID-19 prevention and control, and work to raise public awareness of the epidemic, contributing to protecting the public’s health.
Devoting their youth
Amidst the fourth Industrial Revolution, the HCM CYU committee of Hanoi has called on local youngsters to continue to uphold the traditions and devote to the construction and defence of the capital city and the country.
Youths should play an active role in socio-economic-cultural development, ensuring social welfare, maintaining political stability, protecting the ideological foundation of the Party and safeguarding national sovereignty over seas and islands, Viet stressed.
Last March, the Hanoi Youth Union organised a fundraising ceremony for the “Fund for Vietnam’s Sea, Islands.”
The move aims to support soldiers and civilians staying on Truong Sa (Spatly) archipelago in Vietnam’s East Sea to safeguard the country’s sea and island sovereignty.
Viet called on young people of the capital city to donate to the fund while doing their utmost to prevent the spread of the acute respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.
The union’s staff members offered at least one day’s salary to the fund, along with various donations from youth unions of local universities and firms.
“The Hanoi Youth Union pledges to build a strong youth union and effectively apply lessons from the August Revolution in the present cause of national construction,” Viet said.
He also highlighted the education of revolutionary ideologies among youths, saying it is significant to building and consolidating their sentiments as well as their trust and political will.
In addition, the municipal youth union has organised political training course in line with the city’s major events and the celebrations of the Party and the nation, which have seen an enthusiast response from youngsters.
Many models have been established and rolled out effectively such as “Club No. 5” and “Club of young theorists” gathering young local reporters and communicators to spread goods news and stories among the community.
To make the education of revolutionary ideologies more relevant to among youngsters, Viet suggested all-level youth organisations renew communication and education methods./.
| The Hoang Dieu Citadel National Salvation Youth Union was set up in August 1944 at No.44 Bat Dan street, with around 60 members. In the following months, the organisation intensified dissemination information on the Viet Minh Front as well as the Party’s revolutionary guidelines under the leadership of President Ho Chi Minh at markets, schools, theatres and factories in both downtown Hanoi and surrounding areas such as Ha Dong and Son Tay. After the August Revolution, the union and people nationwide exerted every effort to protect the revolutionary government. |
