Hau Giang, German agency join hands in climate change adaptation

At the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Tuan said although the Mekong Delta holds huge potential, the region still faces obstacles in infrastructure, regional connectivity and especially the impact of climate change.
Hau Giang is among the hardest-hit, so it has focused on
building infrastructure for regional connectivity and urban drainage, the
official added.
Tuan said that the province has reached an agreement with the GIZ on the implementation of the plan and assigned the Department of
Construction, the Department of Planning and Investment and other agencies to
team up with the German agency.
He also suggested that the GIZ build pilot models when carrying
out projects in the province to expand to other localities in the region.
This new plan consists of three parts with the first one
on State management that will continue supporting regional connectivity, the
second on coordination mechanisms for the region, and the third on inter-provincial
infrastructure, said Director Tim McGrath.
It will be carried out from 2021-25 at a total cost of 13-15
million EUR (14-16 million USD).
Studies on the coordination mechanisms for the region and
sub-regions are underway, along with those on regional planning, socio-economic
development and climate change adaptation, he noted./.
