A ceremony to mark the 127th birthday of President Ton Duc Thang (August 20) was held at the Ton Duc Thang Museum in Ho Chi Minh City on August 15.

In her speech at the ceremony, Director of the museum Tran Xuan Thao recalled the life and career of the President, who devoted his whole life to the national revolutionary cause and people.

She stressed the need for young generations to deeply learn about the President.

On the occasion, the Museum reviewed ten years of a drawing contest named “Ho Chi Minh City children with Uncle Ton (2006-2015)” which lured thousands children aged from 5-15 years old citywide.

The entries show children’s pride of the venerable leader and the city’s growing development as well as their dreams.

The 61 award-winning works will be exhibited at the museum as part of activities to celebrate President Ton’s birthday.

On the same day, the HCM City chapter of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) and the Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper arranged a ceremony to honour outstanding individuals winning the Ton Duc Thang Award in 2015.

Speaking at the event, VGCL President Dang Ngoc Tung highlighted the significance of the award, saying that it has contributed to encouraging engineers and workers to develop their creativity.

He said he hopes that bestowed individuals during the last 15 years will made positive contributions to their businesses, thus promoting the city’s development.

This year, as many as 15 outstanding workers and engineers out of 34 nominated individuals in the city were selected for the award .

The award honours technicians, managers and workers who work hard, apply advanced technology to improve productivity and create cost-saving production techniques.

A total of 162 workers have won the Ton Duc Thang Award since 2000, focusing on the sectors of manufacturing mechanics, industrial electronics-electricity, chemicals-rubber and plastic, food and foodstuff processing.

At the ceremony, the VGCL and the municipal People’s Committee presented certificates of merit to 25 organisations and 11 individuals in recognition of their service to the organisation of the award from 2000-2015.-VNA
