HCM City celebrates south liberation day

After 42 years of liberation of the south and national reunification, Ho Chi Minh City has made significant achievements in various areas and become a driving force for the country’s development, said Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong said at an art performance on April 30.

HCM City (VNA) – After 42 years of liberation of thesouth and national reunification, Ho Chi Minh City has made significantachievements in various areas and become a driving force for the country’sdevelopment, said Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee NguyenThanhPhong said at an art performance on April 30.

Currently, the Party Organisation, government and people inthe city are striving to improve the living environment, making it a city ofcivilisation, development and integration, Phong said at the event, whichmarked the 42nd anniversary of the Liberation of the South and NationalReunification (April 30) and the International Labour Day (May 1).

The victory in April 30, 1975 against the US imperialistswas a great success in the national liberation led by the Party and PresidentHo Chi Minh, an important milestone in the country’s thousand-year history ofnational defence and construction.

Participants enjoyed special music and dances reliving the Vietnamesepeople’s tradition of fighting foreign invaders, as well as highlighting the nationalsolidarity to push the country forward.-VNA
